CDC101
This class is designed to introduce you to the materials associated with charcoal drawing, as well as to teach a working method to produce sound drawings. This entails the concepts of shape, value, and edge, as well as tools for measuring, such as sight-size, triangulation, and comparative measurement. In the first half of the course you will work from the historic Bargue Plates, creating the same drawings executed in European schools of the 1800's. In the second half of the course you will draw from plaster casts, utilizing what you have learned to translate a 3-dimensional object into a 2-dimensional drawing.
OBJECTIVE: DEMONSTRATE UNDERSTANDING/COMPETENCY IN THE FOLLOWING:
- Materials associated with charcoal drawing, as well their functions.
- Understanding of the four basic methods of measurement presented: Sight-Size, Triangulation, Comparative, and Plumb Line, as well as being able to utilize them consistently and frequently during work.
- The idea of shape, value, and edge in detail, and the role they play in creating the realism of a work.
- The ability to reproduce shapes in a drawing with a high level of accuracy compared to the subject.
