Assignment 1

Bargue Plate Envelope

Working in the methods presented, you will utilize sight-size, triangulation, plumbs/levels, and comparative measurement to begin construction of a Bargue plate envelope, beginning with a schema. After obtaining the correctly proportioned height and width, you will proceed to carve the box into a basic schema of correct angles, working toward a clean envelope. You should also use this time to become accustomed to the willow charcoal, learning to make light, clean, and straight marks without the aid of a straight edge. The success of the assignment should be judged on accuracy, line quality, and cleanliness of the drawing.

We recommend repeating the assignment as many times as needed to achieve mastery before moving on to the next assignment.
