Introduction to Assignment 1

Assignment 1

Master Copy Shadow Map

Utilize the process presented in CDC101 to complete an accurate and clean envelope of lights and shadow map of the darks of a historical painting. Because of the greater amount of subtlety of values within the reference, you are challenged to determine an appropriate and informative decision of the boundary between the lights and darks to arrive at a successful shadow map. After obtaining the correctly proportioned height and width of a shape, proceed to carve the box into a basic schema of correct angles, working toward a clean envelope. You should also use this time to become accustomed to the willow charcoal, learning to make light, clean, and straight marks without the aid of a straight edge. The completed assignment should be judged on accuracy, line quality, and cleanliness of the drawing.

We recommend repeating the assignment as many times as needed to achieve mastery before moving on to the next assignment.
