CPC101
Technique is best learned by observing successful examples, and copying master works in monochrome and limited palette will immediately cultivate painting skills. Learn the difference between, and how to produce, open grisaille, closed grisaille, and limited color palette paintings. Copying master paintings furthers the study of technique and composition, focusing on using paint application and color to do so. Those skilled in all concepts of drawing (shape, value, and edge) should feel free to opt for any subject; those who have not yet mastered drawing should limit subject to still life and landscape.
OBJECTIVE: DEMONSTRATE UNDERSTANDING/COMPETENCY IN THE FOLLOWING:
- The ability to reproduce shapes in a painting with a high level of accuracy compared to subject.
- The ability to reproduce values in a painting with a high level of accuracy compared to subject.
- The ability to reproduce edges in a painting with a high level of accuracy compared to subject.
- The ability to reproduce brushwork/paint application with a high level of accuracy compared to subject.
- The ability to reproduce color in a painting with a high level of accuracy compared to subject.
