Assignment 1

Color Charts

Review the information on how to make the Flemish color charts in Concepts of Painting: Color Charts and watch the accompanying video. After taping the panels, proceed through the charts, focusing on one color chart at a time. The goal is to create a chart that represents one color as the majority color of each mixture, with each column representing a mixture of the majority color with a different color (75% and 25% by influence, not by volume), and with 5 rows of value steps from the mixture to an off-white version of the mixture. Make as many columns as colors on the palette. Create 2 charts for each color: 1 chart representing value adjustment made with the addition of white, and 1 chart representing value adjustment made with a glaze, or stain.
